Sweep dreams, Orioles.

Anyone ever see the Disney movie Fantasia?

I’m sure I don’t have to explain why I ask this. You may just get the correlation between the above image & last night’s Yankees vs. Orioles game. Let’s get right down to it.

Baltimore started the game off with a run in the 1st and we quickly caught up in the 3rd with Hinske’s second solo shot of the series, so we had what I like to call a “neutral ballgame” up until the 7th inning. Alex came up with two ribbies, but Nolan Reimold responded almost instantly in the 8th with a solo-homer off of Brian Bruney. Bruney always makes me nervous. I’m not the religious type, but I started saying my Hail Mary’s when I saw him warming up in the pen.

As quickly as he was brought to the mound, he was sent back to the dugout and replaced with Cokie, then HUUUGHES! Girardi had answered my prayers. =]

Now, before I get to the best part of the game, I just want to say that our man “Z.Z.” did a great job starting last night! He got his 16th win of the season and was even named the AL’s Pitcher of the Month for August. You go boy!

I’m not gonna milk it…We simply owned the Orioles in the 9th inning. Do you understand me? OWNED. I kinda wanted to feel bad for them, but I was too busy enjoying thNew+York+Yankees+v+Baltimore+Orioles+wJvH9fMeJmSl.jpgis little rally the Yanks had going on. A bunch of us that were watching the game and tweeting simultaneously were joking about some insurance runs, but heyyy…we didn’t expect 7! Not that we were complaining. *smile*

Oh, and remember those two ribbies Alex got in the 7th? Well, he doubled it up in the 9th for a total of four ribbies. Suhweet. By the end of the night all of our starters had at least one hit.

Swish finally ended the 9th inning rally with a pop up to CF. Awww =( It had to end sometime. What had me tripping out about this rally wasn’t all the runs we scored, oh nooo. It was the fact that we had 2 outs on the board and we just kept bringin ‘em in! I love it!

To end this entry I wanted to point some things out. Interesting little tidbits: Teixeira had the night off (would you imagine if he would’ve had a piece of the action?), Swisher was on first (and did a good job I must say), Molina had an RBI (doesn’t surprise me), and Alex proved to the world that he comes through in the CLUTCH.

With another series in the bag, the Yanks hop a plane to Toronto for the Blue Jays series…which probably just finished (I’m behind)!

-So until next time fans, I leave you with this quote from George Steinbrenner’s Yankeeography and a picture of my favorite interview from *Tuesday’s post game…

“Always work as hard, or harder than anyone who works for you.”

Yanks must be eating their Wheaties! (Part 2)

Okay, so it’s pretty pathetic that a true Yankee fan would fall asleep during a game…*cough* I was so exhausted! Anyway, as I drifted off into a sweet slumber during the 5th inning the Yankees were busy trying to put the Orioles to sleep.

Apparently, Posie was cposie counts2.JPGompletely perdido (it means lost in spanish) last night. I was awake when he didn’t realize he was dealt ball four during the 2nd inning. What I didn’t see was the second homer that he belted out to left field on what Michael Kay called a “free swing”. Posada was 3-1 when David Hernandez provided strike TW15713828.jpgO. Under the impression that he had struck out, Posie began walking towards the visitor’s dugout. Angel Hernandez, the home plate ump, yelled at him to come on back. Hey man, you’re not done yet…jeeze! Of course he wasn’t done yet…he still had to put two more runs on the board. Ay Posie.

Before all this, Smiley had also gone yard in the 2nd. Then, Swish joined the party in the 7th. I had just opened my eyes right before Swish started swinging, but then he got his twenty-third homerun…that definitely woke me right up! I started screaming. =X

That’s when Hinsk, Swisher’s usual RF replacement, stepped up to the plate and decided, “Hey, I want some of that!” BAM. It was gone.

I loves me some back-to-back action!

Especially when Nick Swisher’s involved.

The game was pretty much over after that. They ended their second game in the Baltimore series with a 9-6 win. I’m definitely looking foward to tonight’s game! I will be wide awake & paying full attention.

-See ya!

Yanks must be eating their Wheaties! (Part 1)

Alright kiddies, is it just me or does anyone else feel another sweep coming on? Let’s hope the Yanks keep working that pinstripe magic. I didn’t get to watch monday’s game, but that’s what TiVo was made for! I frantically caught up on Pettite’s performance an hour before last night’s game, but didn’t realize he was on his way to pitching a perfect game until the top of the 7th. (-.-) I usually don’t fast foward through an opponent’s at-bats, but I was just trying to catch up before the other game started. I proceeded to ask my father, who did get to watch it monday’s game, if Andy was indeed pitching a perfect game. He told me he was, but that someone was about to royally screw it up for him…oh dear.

Andy’s perfect game ended on a grounder towards third.

To top it off, It was the person I least expected to mess it up…J.Hair.

3877464054_34763e1448.jpgJerry rushed foward to get ahold of the ball, but it got past him and was called an error. Needless to say, Hairston was down in the dumps for the rest of the night. Alas, his teammates assured him that it was alright & that basically, sh*t happens. Pettite also tried cheering Hairston up…

“The ball took a bad hop on him. He kind of looked like he moved to his left and had to go back to his right. I feel bad for him. He was hanging his head and I gave him a hug, like, ‘Dude, come on.’

“Obviously, it would have been cool and special for me, but it was no big deal, really. He’s not out there trying to make an error. He’s been a great addition to our club.”

Pettite also told Hairston that he didn’t wanna pitch 9 innings anyway. That’s what I call a class act. Nevertheless, the Yanks came up with a big win; they ended the night with a 5-1 victory over the Orioles.
